Clio reminds me of my accomplishments and my background, she makes me confident that I am wise and that I have learned from my past. She has already helped me throughout the trojan war and she was present during my traitorous travels to show me the way. Without her I may not overcome obstacles essential to returning to Ithaca. Her knowledge is what will guide me on my quest home safely. Clio is a wise and intelligent goddess whose traits are valuable to me and my men. She has only one son, Hyacinth, who will soon be a renowned hero. Clio is one of the many daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne. I know this because she has reminded me many times before and kept me from being foolish. Clio often inserts history into the mind of man to remind him of his past and what man has accomplished. Her symbol is the scroll of course, for that is the way we keep records of our history ever since we learned how to write. I have chosen the goddess whose name means teller, she is the goddess of history. The muse I have chosen is the famous goddess Clio. Muses are very common in greek mythology and the 9 daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne are a well known muse. To muse can also be used as a verb to meditate or be engaged. A muse usually offers different forms of inspiration to poets and artists. It can be any number of sister goddesses or even just one single goddess who presides over a particular art. Unlike Calliope (Muse of epic poetry), Euterpe inspires lyrical poetry, and some consider her also the inventor of the aulos, although others grant that privilege to Athena.A muse carries many different meanings in it’s definition. This muse is considered responsible for inspiring musicians and appears with an aulos in her hand and a crown of flowers. In some representations, Erato also carries a golden arrow in reference to the god Eros (counterpart of the Roman god Cupid) who joined lovers with their arrows. That is why her representation is most idyllic: in one hand she carries myrtle and roses and with the other a lyre or zither (a stringed instrument invented by Hermes). The Muse of poetry and love, Erato, takes her name from the god Eros according to the story of Apollonius Rhodius in Argonautica. She is related to Pierus, king of Macedonia, with whom she had a son. In some representations also appears the globe and time, understanding history as a geographical and temporal concept. It was Plato who turned the Muses into intermediaries between the intellectual creator and the gods for the production of work. In Greek mythology, the Muses are companions of the retinue of Apollo, god of music, poetry, and arts, and come down to earth to whisper and inspire ideas to those who invoke them. Then they were expanded to nine and Hesiod gave them their name.
